Blue-ray losing to HD-DVD?

I think just about all of us know that sony is using the PS3 to boots the Blu-ray base install base. However it appears that the PS3's inclusion is hurting Sony's Blu-ray format.

According to a survey by Cymfony, a analyst group that focuses on market influence, HD-DVD has 46% more positive discussions on various websites than Blu-ray. Half as many people are also impressed with Blu-ray visuals than are with HD-DVD visuals. The key reasons for low Blu-ray acceptance is the forced inclusion in the PS3 and Sony's format reputation. Whatever the reason is, it appears Microsoft was dead on in making the HD-DVD an add on, if you want it great if not well that's 200 more in your pocket. How do you think this will affect PS3 sales?

Gears of War Takes the Throne of Halo 2

After months and months of holding the tittle for the game most played on XBL Halo 2 gets dethroned by Novembers game of the month, Gears of War. Gears hasn't won by a hair either, since the release of gears of war on November 7th, XBL has had a 80% increase in gamers! Now while a lot of it may have come from the 48 hour free trail of XBL that is still a quite impressive number. The question now is can Gears of War keep it's throne for December, will Halo 2 take back the crown, or is it possible a unexpected newcomer will blindside the both of them. Let me know what you think post you're comments up.

360's "2.0" launch passes PS3 and Wii beats both

Yes you read right, on thanksgiving Amazon offered a 66% price break for the 360 core system. The promotion generated more sales and more online traffic ("It brought Amazon to a snail pace") than the PS3 and almost the Wii. Microsoft dubbed this 100$ promo the 2.0 launch. Also one week after launch PS3 Demand dropped a sharp 15% allowing both 360 and Wii to pass it.

Maybe it is supply that is hurting PS3, or is it the daunting price tags, or maybe even that the PS3 is just not what it promised. You tell me, post your comments and share your opinion.

PS1 Games on PSP thanks to PS3

A little confusing at first glance, to simplify and explain Sony is making 5 retro PS1 tittles available for download in the PS3 online store, not only will you be able to play these on your PS3 but you can download them to your PSP. Sony is doing its best to be backwards compatible and compete with the Wii in that area, despite a numerous amount of complaints/problems with playing the PS1 format discs. If Sony keeps making moves like this and can correct the technical errors already out there there is no reason why they will not be able to soak up some more market share, especially with Xbox 360's almost non-existing (but improving) backwards compatibility. The currently available titles are Sony's Crash Bandicoot, Cool Boarders, Syphon Filter, and Hot Shots Golf 2, as well as Namco's Tekken 2. Each game costs $5.99, and carries a disclaimer that multiplayer functions in the games won't work because the games have not been altered to support the portable system's Wi-Fi functionality.

Pigs Can Fly...

Today is the day pigs will learn to fly and hell freezes over. why might you ask? EA has never been know for it charitable giving, in fact I can't recall them ever giving out anything for free. Well we can all only hope today be the first of many days that EA goes against its norm by giving out free content in the XBLM. No you don't have to go digging through you're desk drawer for your reading glasses, you read right. Today EA is is giving away free throwback jerseys for Madden 07 and alternate jerseys for NCAA 07. Now while we can hope and prey that EA will adapt the timeless thought that it is better to give than receive, I wouldn't keep my fingers crossed. EA has not announced how long these downloads will be made available for free, but knowing EA you better download them tonight before EA decides to change their mind.

Console Wars

For about the last two years the "Console Wars" seam to find there way into almost ever conversation about gaming. Now I'm not sure what you think about all this, but I'm quite honestly tired of hearing the raging battles over witch system is better. So I'm thankful to know that this holiday season will put a stop to all rumors and rubbish and a winner will be declared.

Going into the holiday season Microsoft has the biggest advantage, with a year up on Nintendo and Sony as well as having plenty of systems on the shelf Microsoft hopes to hit the 10 million milestone by Christmas. Sony's PS3 is trailing in last place with not even a half million systems sold yet, and only having sold about half the systems they projected to have by now. Why is this? A recent poll of gamers shows that 45% of gamers believe it is due to the lack of systems, this is also Sony official excuse. 55% of people believe that Sony simply isn’t the better system. On top of that a recent study by 1up shows that 80% of gamers could not tell the difference in graphics between the 360 and PS3. With that said the Wii is on track to surpass their goal of four million systems. I personally believe that Nintendo has the best business model out of the three, I mean face it, it’s addictively fun and while it is not Hi-Def…if you are at a store and you see those daunting price tags of 600, 400, 250 I would have to believe the majority, while not all would go for the 250 and call it a day, especially if it is a gift.

Anyways lets let the numbers do the talking. All stats are real time.
